DMX and MYSQL
08 Feb 2005 12:58:36 Aaron Jay posted:
I am trying to connect to an MSQL DB using DMX. I had a mahine that was running win 2k with the system ODBC setup all working fine to ocnnect to a remote mysql production server, and all was happy.Enter windows XP.
I have installed DMX on the machine, MySQL ODBC 3.5.1 drivers, and MySQL admin and query browser on the machine. I have set up a system DSN through the ODBC panel that connects to the server, and the MySQL admin and Query programs both connect. However, when I go into Dreamweaver MX, and I set up a site connection, to run with my local DSN, it says ' MySQL cannot connect to localhost (10061).
I even got so fed up I decided to transfer all the information to SQL, but the SQL Enterprise manager can't connect with the DSN.
Is there a bug in Windows XP that won't allow MySQL connections? Or am I missing something? I have gone through methodically and made sure all my information on both machines is exactly the same. The windows 2k machine works, the XP doesnt.
Im Baffled

Obvious 1st question... do you have ServicePack2 installed, and if so have you got the firewall enabled.

yes and yes, will the firewall block it? I thought of this, and opened the 3306 port for mysql, to no avail. Is there some other way around it?

When it 1st came out there were a lot of problems getting SQL server and it to play nicely together.
What happens if you disable the firewall altogether?

I would totally see what MySQL support docs say about it, I doubt you are the first... I'd even google/search the exact error you are getting. www.mysql.com
