Hi AllI currently have Studio MX installed on my dev machine (Windows 2003 Server), and my order for Studio MX 2004 (+ Flash Pro) has just landed on my desk.
What advice can you give me about installing this suite?
Should I remove the old version of Studio and do a clean install, or upgrade this version?
I currently have 38 websites in DWMX, what's the best way to transfer all these sites?
What service pack are we up to with this software, if more than one is available, does the latest contain all the fixes?
I understand that you can run both versions on the same machine, are there any downsides to doing this?
Should I run both until I'm happy with the 2004 version?
Any other information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lee,
I tried running Studio MX2004 alongside Studio MX and the site definitions seemed to jump between the products. So if I used MX04 then went into MX there were no sites defined. So I reset up my sites and then went into MX04 to find they were gone from there?!?! So my advice here would be do a clean install
To transfer all your sites and extensions use MM Exporter www.dmxzone.com/ShowDetail.asp?NewsId=7666 - all hail Chris for this post!
Each product has its own update, I don't think you can get a studio MX update all-in-one

You can run both products on the same machine... but I wouldn't recommend doing so, for the reason I outlined above - though that could be something only I suffered. The improvements to DWMX04 should be enough reason to make the change. I tried for a while to work with both, but that lasted about a week.
I wont comment on Flash or Fireworks as I don't use them enough. I have Photoshop and Illustrator - though the ability to edit images directly in DWMX04 is very cool.

I don't remember where I stole it from (MM Blog?), but I'll take the credit.

This might sounds weird, but... you can download the demos of each app and put in your activation #, since the demos are (mostly) up-to-date (DW 7.01, FW 7.02, Flash Pro 7.2).
I know, it's crazy but worked. Also, I used to have MX/MX2004 apps together, didn't have much trouble on mine (Except for extension installs and no MX2004 support on extensions I bought for MX). But, for me, I always love a reformatted drive; all clean. But then again I have slight O.C.D.
As always, no guarantees.

MX 2004 is still in the box, the box is in a locked chest, the chest is hidden from me and I have removed the tongue of the person that hid it for me...
Studio MX does me fine and does not require me to spend weeks trying to undo the damage MX2004 did when i installed it 3 times.......

Thanks for the response guys.
All installed and now on MX2K4, had to reinstall though. Total time of backing up all the apps, uninstalling and installing (x2) and applying the updates was around 3 hours.
Out of the box DW didn't need an update as it's version was the latest, got a scare though as the error message read something like 'dreamweaver.exe does not exist in dreamweaver mx 2004 folder' when I tried to apply the update. I'm always a bit jittery when installing non MS software on my dev laptop cos it's winserv2k3 and not XP.
Anyway, did a full application backup with the MM_Exporter tool (nice one MM), so if things get really flaky then I'll go back a version and get a refund from my supplier.

Before the update to DWMX04 (i.e. v7.0) if you undocked the panels, as I love to do and have them open on a 2nd monitor, I had an item on the task bar for each panel.
After the update this bug has been fixed - I can have as many undocked panels as I want on my other screen and only 1 instance of DW on the task bar.
Ok so its not majorly important... but it is worth noting I think
