Hello,

I have been designing my pages in tables and then creating images in Photoshop to fill the cells. The final result is a completed page, but it seems like there is an easier way. I don't have much experience in FireWorks, but do know my way around Photoshop and Imageready.

I am experimenting with CSS and have done well, but my sites tend to be blocky. I have been told that the best method is to design the site in photoshop CS and then slice it up. This way it is more graphically pleasing. I tried this approach and added text in HTML rather than the image, but it's tough to place text correctly and I don't feel comfortable with a site that is all a big image with text overlay. Anyone have an opinion or some insight.

I am a newbie, so be easy on me.

What sorta design have you got - if you can post a screenshot of sorts, will see if pure CSS can be your friend with minimal images

Here is one site that I created for a friend.

Here is another site that I created for the same friend.

As you can see I am using divs and absolute positioning, but everything is a box. I am trying to get around making everything square, similar to the content boxes that flank this site.

Thanks!

Have you considered using layers to make images patially over others?

The other thing I was thinking is that your tables can be created with 0 border and the image can be something other than square. This will give it a nice appearance and the square table will not be seen by the visitors.

I am new to this also, but just figured I throw something out there.

Check out this article by Eric Meyer... www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/raggedfloat/demo.html
Its quite a neat way to avoid the blockiness of standard CSS designs, by slicing up your images with a ragged edge so that text that's floated alongside doesnt have the uniform crisp edge of the block

Hello Shane!

I've been doing webdesign for a couple of years know, and used several programs along the way. What I find best is designing the whole page in Photoshop, after that I export images (which I slice up and put into tables). Be sure to adjust the tables to fit the images, then everything should go just fine.

Another thing is the use of colors, try using colors that are pleasing to the eye. It's almost like a picture, if you find it pleasing to look at you tend to stare longer, a lot like nice chicks <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

If you'd like I could give you some tips on how I'm building up this site: www.csmedia.no -a page I'm working on now that is not finished yet. (Photoshop/DWMX Tables)

Regards, Christian
