I have created all of my pages in Dreamweaver MX2004 and now I am not able to preview it when I hit F12. An error message comes up saying - Cannot connect to Server - Page cannot be dislayed. I set up the site management for the remote, local and testing server but I am able to view none of them when I want to test. What can I do to make my test site work?Replies

have you got IIS or PWS running in the background? If you're not using any asp/php or whatever you could always just browse to file direct in IE (File | open) and test that way

We have IIS running in the background. I have created some forms that are using asp, so I can't directly run it in the browser.
There is a test server set up and I did publish it onto that server. The problem is when I try to display the page in browser view there is an error message that says cannot connect to server. In the site manager this is what I have down for all of the site information...Am I pointing something to a wrong path?
If I go under MY NETWORK PLACES there is a folder connected to the LOCAL NETWORK called USERAUTH. And in Dreamweaver it asks to set up a Remote Site, Local Site, and a Testing Server. For the...
Remote Site - Access = Local/Network Remote Folder = W:\PartnerWeb\new\ (this is connected somehow to the USERAUTH on the LOCAL NETWORK)
Local Site - Site Name = PartnerWeb Local Root Folder = C:\Documents and Settings\Sara\PartnerWeb\newhttp address = userauth/
Testing Server - Server Model = None (there are other options like ASP.net, etc.) Access = Local/Network
Testing Server Folder = C:\Documents and Settings\Sara\PartnerWeb\new\
URL Prefix = localhost/PartnerWeb/

You should be able to preview forms and all no probs if the IIS is set up properly. Guessing that isn't working right.
Easiest thing if you can is to uninstall IIS then reinstall it - so everyhting is reset to clean settings.
I keep all the sites i work on in a folder called websites (d:\websites\mywebsite) this makes it dead easy to keep the IIS config simple.
In IIS under 'Default Web Site', right click and do a New virtual Directory - call the Alias websites and point it to where you publish your sites. Make sure you allow read, write & directory browsing.
You should now be able to do a basic test in the browser - open a fresh window and type localhost/websites/ into the address bar - you should see a directory listing. If you get this far you should be able to browse to your site...
I never use the F12 option in dreamweaver coz it makes a temporary page to display which seems to mess up too often -
try that lot and post back
