Don't know if this is possible but hopfully some of you guys will know. Using DW MX I created a set of pages that are used as a company intranet. The pages reside on our company server (our website is hosted elsewhare by a supplier) and are accessed through a shortcut to an index page on each users desktop. I want to add some "message board" pages. The plan is for intranet users to be able to add messages to a page (and for them to be deleted when necessary) and for them to be displayed. I know that I will need a database (MS Access?) for the messages but I don't know how to go about doing this. I have extensive knoledge of DW4 but have never made dynamic pages. Would anyone be interested in a detailed email communication to talk me through this if it can be done? Any help much appreciated. Steve.

Hi steve,
First of all I would avaoid using access and try and use php and mysql, they are not as hard to learn as people make out. Secondly you need to find out what the sever is capable of running, i.e. is it ms server, which means you will have to ensure the company is prepared to pay for all this. The secret is... dont use ms if you can help it because it will cost you or your company hundreds. Mysql is free, php is free and what is great is dw speaks that language. Just check to see if the host company that has your pages on uses linux or unix or what ever flavour bar ms.
hope that helps a bit. The advantages of not using ms software are unlimiting.

john

THanks for your assistance, may be one day I'll be able to help you.

Some valid points John but for small solutions there is no reason why MS Access should not be used, as a web db it does not require additional licenses. PHP or ASP are two alternatives you could use that both offer simplicity and lots of support and code examples on the net.

Decide on the technology you want and then follow on of the tutorials that comes with Dreamweaver. Post back here when you have questions!
