Hello,

I used DMX04 to design my company's site and we're switching over to ASP.NET. I work with a developer who does all the .net programming (I'm learning) and I'm confused about Dreamweaver's ability to do .NET programming as well as the Microsoft program. My developer wants me to switch over, but I love Dreamweaver and am pretty sure it was desiged to do development work like this as well or to work in tandum w/ development programs.

I have my setting set to ASP.NET VB so it does write in code for me, but we're concerned that if I work on my files in Dreamweaver and he works on them in Microsoft and we're constantly opening and working on the docs in different programs, things will get messed up. Plus the Microsoft program seems to do a lot of additional .NET things and I'm just not sure I have Dreamweaver optimized.

Thoughts? Resources for using Dreamweaver for heavy .NET development?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's bound to screw up somewhere along the line

both mm and ms are both gonna output different code on writing standard server behaviours etc, and this will cause real problems.

There was an issue on DW using .net freamwork 1.1 and sdk, but there is a patch available to fix that problem on macromedia's site.

Didnt really like the MS suite of tools when i tried them, so ran back to DW <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

But off my limited experience of it, i reckon MS tools can do a more powerful job on .NET code, but that's just my opinion.

Just to add to Daves comments,

Dreamweaver is fully capable of letting you code .net but in I have actually chosen to move to .net studio.

.net is very benificial in that it simplifies the code but dreamweaver complicates it again due to the nature of how the behaviours work.

If you are profitiant in coding I would suggest go with studio rather than mx.

Again, just my opinion though.

In DMX2004 you can easily make an ASP.NET page the way you like. When editing databases or other dynamic content DMX2004 does the job for you.

But, I've tested the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 product for a month and I think that I will use MS for .NET programming. The code is much better and the coding hints are more improved.

Whitin a month I will buy Visual Basic .NET 2003 to create ASP.NET pages. But will still use DMX2004 / Fireworks for the groundwork.

I think that MM will create a seperate version of DMX2004 for ASP.NET development; because I've heard many developers complaining about DMX2004 for .NET coding and will switch to Visual Studio.
