I need some help as to whether or not flash can be linked to a database and if so how.Hi I am a university student in the UK and am currently working on my
final year dissertation project.
What I propose to do is create a prototype encyclopedia on the history
of football and let the user have access to automated updates on new
material. With the ever changing statistics and information in the football world, information can go so quickly out of date. Does anyone know how I can implement automated up-dates through flash?
I have considered using an application such as Director or Flash, can
you provide any information as to whether or not these can be linked to a database?
I am an intermediate level user in Director and have never used flash. I
am also concentrating on the user interface design aspects so thought that one of these applications could be useful to use.
If you have any information on this subject, or indeed any other ways
you think I could implement this system, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, James

In order for Flash to communicate with a database, you need to use server-side application such as ASP, PHP, ColdFusion, Java, CGI, etc, for Flash cannot be integrated directly with a database. You'll also need Flash Remoting to translate results from server-side application and Flash player.
Maybe you can browse around Macromedia site to see more resources for Flash on database connectivity and for using Flash Remoting.
