Well I downloaded the trial version last night, and I have to say I think it looks ok at a glance. I'll be giving it a thorough test tonight when I get home from work. I'll give you more comments tomorrow when I've played around with it.Paul Gannon

Well I downloaded the trial version of Dreamweaver MX 2004 and Firworks MX 2004 last night, and I have to say I think they look ok at a glance. I'll be giving them a thorough test tonight when I get home from work. I'll give you more comments tomorrow when I've played around with them.

Well, so did I and I must say, I cannot see the big deal of upgrading to version 7. I own DW MX, which I bought in June 2002 and now the new version does not offer too much.
Whats nice is
<ul><li>the working space looks better organised </li><li> styles are displayed in a dropdown list for easier insertion </li><li>Browser check seems more accurate now </li><li>Inserts of Word documents now remove these annoying Microsoft "Styles" completely. This is a very nice feature!</ul>
On the other hand
<ul><li> there is not one single server behaviour for php other than in DW MX </li>
<li>The same old SQL insertion form with SELECT WHERE and ORDER which is very basic and insufficient </li>[*]No possibility to put the Connection folder somewhere else than one directory level above</li></ul>
Of course I have not gone too far in examinig but espacially the treatment of server apps for php, DW MX 2004 is disappointing.
With this severe lack of improvements its not worth spending $200 for an upgrade. Better wait for a real improvement instead of cosmetics.

Hi again sorry for not replying soon, but I didn't have my password with me.
Well, I've been using DMX 2004 for a day or so and I'm still trying to get used to it.
I do think the interface has been improved a bit as it now looks like a Windows program rather than a Mac program . I don't think I'll be shelling out money to upgrade to this version just yet and I'm gonna stick with MX. Having just upgraded to MX a few months ago from UltraDev I think it's a bit soon to upgrade again :S
I am a bit disappointed that there are no new Server Behaviours (or non that i can see) for ASP - not really tried PHP yet. Hopefully people will start developing more FREE extensions for DMX instead of charging for them. I agree that some MXP's are worth paying for (ie the ones on DMX Zone), but there are so many these days that need to be paid for, it's costing a small fortune to write a web site.
The FTP tool seems to have improved, but I'll have to play around with this feature more.

Actually,
One thing i found in the PHP department was that the security module is now free, as it was only available as a chargeable MXP from the exchange before.
This is probably because MM realise that nobody is going to pay them money for small simple PHP server behaviours like that when they are available for free by using the SUPERB Phakt (www.interakt.ro) PHP application server for DWMX.
But besides that, i guess it's just an interface upgrade really, a lot of the table design features are great, and i really like the new properties windows <i>a la</i> Visual Basic.
Very noice.
