Hi,I have tried for two full days now and I still dont know what im doing. I downloaded ipswitch.com to use as an FTP place but now im not sure this is compatible with Macromedia studio mx. Does anyone know if this is or of another place that might be better for me to use to upload my files..
I just cant seem to figure out how what to put in the host name or host isp address box. They say I need to contact my server for this information. Would my sever be dreamweaver? And if so where would I find the information to give them?
Im sorry for all the questions but this is all so confusing to me..
Thanks for any help at all..

Do you mean that you downloaded WS_FTP from ipswitch.com? If so then that should work just fine to publish the site. However, you said that you are using Macromedia Studio MX which is a bundle that has Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and more included in it. I assume that you are using Dreamweaver (DMX) to create the site, which has the FTP control included in the software. WS_FTP is not the place that you store your files online so they can be veiwed. You need a webhost for that. They will then give you all the FTP information that you need to use DMX to publish your site to the net.
If you don't have a hosting company, I can host it for you and also answer a lot of questions that you might have. I am running a small hosting company. LEt me know if you are interested. Or just let me know if you need more help.

Hi James,
I certainly am interested in finding out more information about your hosting site. So please let me know where to go or what you have to offer.
I just went and checked on the version of Dreamweaver that im using and it is the studio MX that comes with flash, fireworks, freehand and Coldfusion but it just says Dreamweaver MX not DMX so not sure if this has the FTP included or not is there a way for me to double check on this so I can find out if I need WS FTP or not? I am on aol which offers some free FTP space not alot though and I dont want my pages in Hometown so I decided to look else where. While I was installing Dreamweaver I decided not to install the Coldfusion part of it because this all seemed a bit overwhelming to me so I thought I would learn one program at a time and not include Coldfusion at this time. Was this a bad decision?
Thanks again for your help. I truly do appreciate it. Im reading books and going through tutorials but no one is really making this part of it clear to me, so it great to be able to ask some questions..

Hi Jill-
I dont want you to get confused about the Dreamweaver MX and DMX. They are the same thing. I just shortened it. So, the DMX that you have is fine to upload your site. Unfortunatly, AOL Hometown does not allow FTP connections to upload a site. I also noticed that you are using space from Homestead.com. I used them for a while when i was learning also. As far as I know, they dont allow FTP connections either.
Dont worry about not installing the ColdFusion. That is basically for setting up sites that will update by themselves and for setting up stores and things like that. In my opinion, it's pretty much for advanced users.
As far as me hosting your site, I am still working on my hosting site but I will have something up for you to see the options that i can offer you by tonight or tomorrow. Basically, I can offer you anything that you might need, since i own the company.
So, here is what you are going to need to do:
1) Purchase and register a domain. (ie, www.jillswebsite.com)
I have found a site that is only $8.75/yr. Others charge as much as $30/yr.
Go to www.cheap-domainregistration.com and make sure that the name that you want
is available and then register it. After that, you will then need to get someone to host
your site for you. Then, your host will give you two (2) "DNS" addresses to attach to
the domain name. If you want me to be your host, then just let me know. I would
be more than happy to.
Either way, I can and will help you set up the DNS and DMX ftp information when you do have a host. I will be able to create tutorials for you to follow.

P.S. I am not sure where you are located but I have a chatroom on my site and i can be found on there 5:00pm - 10:00pm Pacific time. Here is the link for the chatroom. www.solowhost.com/schat
