Root Name Servers
01 May 2003 19:41:59 A. B. posted:
Does anyone know where I can find specific information about root domain servers? I've made changes to my company's DNS, and it hasn't propagated yet. I'm just wondering how often our name servers are checked for updates. Is there a way I can change the frequency of updates? Thanks in advance.

DNS changes could take up to 72 hours to propagate across the globe - has it been that long yet?

Brent,
Yes, actually today is the fourth day. I'll keep pinging the site though throughout the day.
Do you know how often each name server is queried for updated information? Is there a way for me to change the frequency of the query?
Thanks so much.

Are you sure you made the changes correctly? Post the IP of the site in question.

Brent,
The domain is www.westmemphis.org.
The old IP is 216.65.202.20 and the IP where the DNS points now 216.65.202.28. But when I ping the domain, it still shows .20.
I changed the A record to point to the .28 IP address in DNS on both company name servers, so the change should work.
Ideas?
Thanks.
Andrea

Show the old IP pointing to SBC E-Services - Dallas IDC SBCIDC-DAL.
Network Solutions (now Verisign) says that your DNS servers are:
NS.IMAZINGCJRW.COM 216.65.202.20
NS.CJRW.COM 216.65.202.21
You need to log into your Verisign control panel and make the changes there as well.

Brent,
Those two name servers are the correct primary and secondary servers. This site needs to be on another web sever on our network - .28.
I changed the address DNS record on both the primary and secondary servers to point to .28.
Do you know what I could be doing wrong? Or do I just need to wait and see if it propagates?
Thanks.
Andrea

What you are saying does not make sense to me - Verisign should have at least 4 input fields for DNS server - change the first one to the .28 address and in 72 hours, that is where the world will find the westmemphis.org site.
