I would look at an open source option to do this. Check out www.sourceforge.net and see if you can find an open source project that meets your requirements. No reason to reinvent the wheel I always say!

You will find that creating a chat room is a very long and hard event with the results never being quite what you want.

Just trey is right, I would also suggest getting yourself a pre-built version.

Be aware that there are some asp versions around but the all require the page to upload each time you want to see something change and this is very annoying for users.

If you really want something good you will need to pay....and they are not cheap.

If you want to get something that works like Yahoo........my advice is to just download messenger!

Well chat is complicated, how ever if you have no idea how to, why not go to www.flashkit.com and do a search for CHAT, there alot of realtime flash chating programs easy to set up also!!
