Is it possible for me to use tomcat as the testing server, and create JSP pages in Dreamweaver MX. I am new to the whole dynamic web page design thing. Any help would be greatful as this is for my university final year project.

Yes. My employer actually uses Tomcat for production. It works just fine. I stongly recommend at least version 4.0.3 any 3. version is unstable.
