Database Connection

I am simply trying to use the tutorial in MX to get an understanding of setting up a database. I created the DSN on my remote server. Came back to my desktop and attempted to make the connection. However, the database panel is "greyed" out. I can not access the "+" to create the connection. I copied files from local to remote server. I even tried to set up the dsn manually on my computer through control panel, and nothing! Any suggestions?Thanks,

Did you define your site 1st?? and tell it what technology you are using?

Yeah, I defined as an ASP. entered remote server \\ecom\mj2\mysampleapp\ next step entered testing server (where I think the problem lies) ecom/mj2/mysampleapp/ and get ERROR HTTP 4011...
