I have created a site in DWMX for a client from a template and everything works fine. BUT now the client has asked me to add an extra button to the page (which is just the addition of a new table row with the button text in it) But when DW askes me to update all pages based on the template and I say OK, nothing is updated ! anyone know why ? Any help would be appreciated

is the button located on the template. Make sure that you see the log and which files are actually accessible. Remember that if you make changes inside editable regions, nothing will happen. It has to be on the template zone.

A good aproach is to make what is called nested templates, this templates act as a template inside a template. There are some good and easy Video Tutorials at the Macromedia.com website.
