Does anybody know how to change the default transfer mode from binary to ascii, or alternatively, how to specify ascii transfer type in FTPExtensionMap.txt for files with no extension? Can this be done? Replies

That may have worked for Dreamweaver 2 and 3, but I've been trying it with MX and it doesn't work.

Hmmm, i see what you mean.
It appears DW4 had a problem with this and required an update:

But for MX I can't find anything, maybe you would do best to post your problem in the DW forum at MM.com since that is where the experts are and they can probably tell you how to deal with this in MX. I never had problems with FTP and default transfer mode is fine.
