This really is a cool effect.

I too went and searched for the design steps needed to make this happen.

I am a little surprised that none of the pros at macromedia have any complete walkthroughs on this for the newbie. I am more surprised that this technique is not covered in any of the top selling flash books. (looked last evening) (including flash mx magic, flash magic, inside flash, flash unleashed, flash Bible, flash mx bible)

Maybe someone here knows more about it and has a link on their website?

I would think this technique would be covered for sure, in a chapter or two of the top selling books, no?
