very simple question i have a virtual server Do i just place the directory ADOdb with its contence as down loaded from the web on my web server

or do i need the system admin at the isp to compile it or somthing

the server runs Mysql and PHP4

Are you using Dreamweaver MX with PHAkT?

If so, when you create your ADOdb/php4 page connection, dreamweaver automatically FTP's the drivers needed into a folder called adodb on your remote server.
