Haven't visited here in quite a while (6 months?), but as I've had to, again, work on a database project as an amateur ASP developer, I appreciate your suggestions, like

* How do you test your sites for older browsers? Do you install IE4x/5x alongside say IE6? Where can I find older versions?

* In transmitting form data as HTML hidden values, I find IE6 able to accept constructions like

value=""there's a double quote"

Can I get away with not HTML-encoding?

Thanx.

In IE yes, but netscape say 4.75 and up will need you to encode it does not like spaces at all.

Good luck

I have had problems installing older versions of IE alongside the current version. However I do have a copy of Netscape 4.08 installed for testing without any problems. It's not 100% reliable, but Netscape 4 was such a lousy browser that if everything runs OK in that then it will probably be OK in IE 4 and almost certainly 5 and 5.5. IE is far more forgiving than Netscape.

You can download pretty much every version of all the browsers from: browsers.evolt.org/

Owen.
