Add recordset to template based page ?¿
29 Jul 2002 09:16:20 V James posted:
i've recreated a template from UD4 to the new MX standard after experiencing some problems with the differences in the two Template formats (UD4 v MX). for consistency sake, i like pages to be one, or the other, never both.so i have now created a new main template and two nested templates based on the main.
i then want to create a new page based on one of the nested templates, and add a recordset to it so that i can throw in dynamic content - i even have the CodeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" parameter set in the main template, but when i try to add the recordset to the new page, DWMX keeps telling me "Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or translator. The change will be discarded."
now the way UD did it was to write the necessary VBScript above the opening <pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>html</font id=code></pre id=code> tag, insert the corresponging ASP code at the cursor, and close the recordset after the closing <pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>html</font id=code></pre id=code> tag. great!
in my experience with MX so far, this is not the case. ive been all over macromedia.com/support and cant find any tech notes about it.
please, before i go insane, has anybody experienced this? am i alone in my madness? does anyone know if this is just a bug or of any workarounds i can use?
cheers,

you're not the only one stress
i had the same problem with mx
the CodeOutside tag didn't help me at all when i added a rs in my template
the funny thing is that when i created a template (starting from scratch) added a rs saved and created a new page using that template, it <b>DID</b> have the rs !
but when i try to add a rs to an existing template and try to apply it to the linked documents it doesn't work.
i don't have an explenation for this either so i kind 'o like to have an answer to this aswell ...
thx
I scream in dev/null so nobody can hear me being frustrated.

well, i seached my bol**ks off for an answer about diappearing rs's in used templates and that CodeOutside tag that appearently doens't work.
No results what so ever, at least nothing usefull. Everything about "use this tag to ..." to "add a record set to ..." which doesn't help me (i can say us now <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
at all.
a rs in a new template is no problem (create new page using template works) but add a rs to a template that already has pages made on it, doens't work (tag message, rs is in the template but not in the pages created on it's content)
so let's call out to anyone in the zone to let us know if somebody know a solution to this problem.

Hallelujah Nosferatu!
I certainly second that notion - I've had no further info from the Macromedia forums either. =(
Will post any info to UDZone if it turns up.

Any other news on this? Apparently this is a known bug, but when I posted this issue on Macromedia's forum just a few days ago, I got no answer. Please let me know if you find anything.
Thanks in advance,
Don
