Dunno about just an icon but you could easily create a html wallpaper for them to use as with your logo on it for example.

I have been trying some stuff out, i came as far as making a shortcut file (.ink) and zip it up, that they can downlaod and extract to their desktop, but that's not a very direct way... People will need WinZip, and will have to point to their desktop....

It would be better to create a .exe file that can do that, but i don't know how to write such an exe file...

If anyone has any options, please let me know...

You can create a self extracting zip file with WinZip, this creates a *.exe file.

Once downloaded it can be douple clicked and it will extract itself without the need for WinZip on the client machine.

First create a Zip file, then double click it to open it with WinZip, then click on Actions and select Make .Exe file - easy.

That's true i tried that one, but than people still need to own WinZip to unpack, and i don't think avaerybody has a copy....

I found something on www.startertool.com , thats a little what i eman, the only thing is that is actually used for a CD to autostart your web browser...

PLease let me know if you have any other suggestions..

I thought if i create an executable with WinZip, i would still need winzip to unpack it... But, i tried it an i got the solution....

So for sieteyuna:

Just make a shortcut, zip it, than from the zip create an exe, and your done!!!

As simple as that.... You just have to explain to the people how are gonna downlaod it, that they have to point to their desktop to place it over there and not in some hgard to find TEMP folder, you can even specify that...

I will try the zip option, i guess i am going to try to generate shortcut, then use winzip, that will do for now, i will also try to convert the shortcut icon with a regular installer so i can deliver it via disc. what do you think???

I tried that download and ran the shortcut on my desktop. It said for the new settings to take effect you must restart your computer now. YES or NO. Strange!

Running Win2000 pro, ie 6.

mmm that's very strange Beano, i tried it my self a couple of times, also using wy2k pro and IE6 but no probs here....

Very strange....

Here is how i solved:

I have created a shortcut, created an icon.
Then compiled as a regular exe application with installmaker (freeware)
this turned into a nice distribution tool, wich installs the shortcut in the start menu, and on the desktop. even installs an uninstaller

just 80kb heavy.
The zip version was 370 kb and not everyones have WINZIP in their computers.

Now i can distribute over the web or email or floppy discs
