I am quite experienced in using html, but i need to create an online bookstore but do not having any knowledge of asp programming. Is asp the way to go. How would i go about creating an online bookstore that would have a backend DB that could be searched. I would also need to be able to allow site visitors to buy online. Where would i start on this. I am very keen to learn a programming language such as ASP/Coldfusion. I really need some advice or a step in the right direction. I am a designer, and after looking at some of the software packages such as actinic, erol and others I have decided to learn to do it myself. Please ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!???

We have an E-Commerce Site Manager, that I think you would be looking for. However, we are not releasing the software for developer use yet. At the moment we are installing it for end user clients.

You can check out our E-Commerce software at:
www.site-manager.com/af.asp?a=11&l=1tds9p6x2&r=ecommerce

We can do the system for you but that would no good as you want to learn. So, here is what I suggest... go onto any search engine and search for "ASP Shopping Cart". There are a good view out their that you can download. Download the files, and start playing around with the free demos or programs that you find. After awhile you will get the hang of how things work and whats good and whats not. And so on.

You will probably be then able to upgrade a basic asp store into a fully custom system for yourself. Try the search and see what comes back. Make sure you tell us what you found and which ones where good.

Regards,

Thanks for all the help - I have really found this to be valuable. As far as searching for "ASP Shopping Cart", I'll let you know how I get on experimenting.

Just to ask your professional/personal advice - is ASP better than CFM for an online store and would you say that once you've got to grips with the languages, are they fairly easy to implement??

Thanks again...
