Optimal Screen Resolution
30 Apr 2002 15:25:09 A. B. posted:
What is the optimal screen resolution that I should design a site to use? I normally use 1024 x 768, but a lot of people complain that the graphics and menus don't appear correctly. Is there a way that I can overcome screen resolution obstacles? Is there a script that will display the site in a better format?
Thank you in advance!

hi there,
generally you should do you site for 800 x 600 but you can add a simple javascript which can detect what rez the user is on a re-direct them to different pages, so you could have 2 sites, on for 800 x 600 and another for 1024 x 768 etc.

"To start press any key", where's the any key?

Ian,
Thank you for your suggestion. Where can I find a script that detects the user's screen resolution and then redirects the browser?
Thanks!

In my experience, detecting screen resolution isn't good way to go. It's a waste of time to design several pages instead of one, future redesigns are more time consuming, redirection couses problems with addresses... Also, javascript can fail on some browsers. Better make your design liquid (100% of the screen). Something like these forums.
