"Dreamweaver MX combines the renowned visual layout tools of Dreamweaver, the rapid web application development features of Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev, and the extensive code editing support of Macromedia HomeSite, into one approachable and powerful development environment. "

Does this mean that UD is merged with DW?

How much of the UD5 Wishlist has been taken into account in MX?

What does "MX" stand for?

Nope, no more UltraDev. Looks like they are killing Homesite too. Which is too bad, because HS was always more useful than DW's weak code editing interface (and it doesn't crash as much on me as DW does).

They have tried to pack alot into DW. it has .net, php, jsp mysql support built in. A new interface, snippets and some other cool features. I am just now playing with it and like it a lot more. I can't comment on stability issues as of yet, but I am preordering the studio.<img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Over there in the DW Forum there's talk of "Ultradev MX" -- confusing.

Yes, check out www.macromedia.com/software/ultradev to see what Macromedia says about it.

Well, I don't know the wishlist out of my head. But when you asked for PHP support it's there, when you asked for .NET support it's there. When you asked for more Homesite-like features... you are lucky. But when you don't care about all this, only develop ASP-VBScript sites and never customize the code by hand, you won't need the update. (But you might also want to brighten your horizon a littlebit)

Have you tried it? DWMX now has lots of features Homesite had.

Yeah, now I have. Overall it's okay so far. Response is a little sluggish on my machine, and I don't really care for the interface of the tag inspector much (which I used a lot in Homesite, so that's probably an issue of my own habits making the adjustment).

One big problem I have is that, MX has more than double the memory usage of either UltraDev 4 or Homesite 5. Eek! I guess MX stands for "Memory eXhauster."

Need to play with it more to get a real feel for it. I will be really happy if the design view has better support for displaying CSS than UD4 did.

It indeed handles CSS better than before. Still not like a browser does though <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
