Hi all - not a question but some cool info. Yesterday I attended a Macromedia seminar here in Portland, OR. When someone asked about Ultradev 5, one of the instructors said that they couldn't say anything about dates/features because it could be considered insider trading. But, what I did pick up from his discussions on UD4, Flash MX and Fireworks is that they are changing their naming system to MX, so I am sure that the next UD will be Ultradev MX.

Now for the good part... I begged him for some info about the new UD, and said "be vague if you have to". He smiled and said, "OK, here is what I CAN tell you. Everything you wished was in UD4, will be in [UDMX]. IF you could write out 5-10 things you wanted, I am pretty sure that they would all be in there plus more..." He also said of PHP support, "It was just emerging when we came out with UD4, so it wasn't a natively scripted language - though we eventually worked with a 3rd party to have it added through extensions. Going forward that won't be the case due to its increased popularity."

All said, sounds like good news... side note, Flash MX rocks. Later.

i can't wait to see how those new functions will affect my current site.
Calling it a website doesn't do it justice, if I keep up integrating stuff into it at this pace then soon i'll get a request to plugin a few Oracle apps backends into my web front end... Mine's moving to SQL soon, users complaining about too many requests errors...

I can see it now on our front page... Powered by .net connected software...

They keep it all highly classified, i browsed the underground scene looking for nothing in particular, just curious, i saw dreamweaver MX beta float by, so i clicked it, a bit unbelieving of it's contents. A half hour later i uninstalled it, nice look but it didn't see my server, i didn't even bother to check out other things after my first try of a feature failed...What good is asp, asp+, php, cfm without the thing being able to locate my server ?!

i never needed to do that in UDev 4.
Looks kinda like Flash MX, but darker colors.

I agree, but maybe we can provide Macromedia with the details, I mean this site where i found the beta had all MM products there.

Or MM can setup a small thingy where we can enter url's that we encounter with illegal MM products ? That must be like 10 minutes work for those MM website guys.

Well i don't think beta versions have something to do with piracy.
Still testing them and informing them about the bugs would be a great help.
But still don't worry i understand what you mean waldo.
And djvgalen, brother take cool companies like macromedia don't care about the piracy.

I can understand your point, but consider the facts. If a company (Macromedia, Microsoft, Apple etc) have a <b>closed</b> beta test then you can be darn sure there's a good reason for it.

Sure, beta software is beta software, it's unstable, and is for testing purposes only. Still, somebody wrote that software, and somebody owns the copyright to that software.

Don't be fooled. Pirate beta software is still pirate software, and if you think you're helping by using it, then just report a bug, and see what happens.

Don't be fooled for a moment. Macromedia did NOT help with the creation of PHAkT or ImpAKT. If a representative of Macromedia really said that to you then he is NOT in any way giving you the correct information.

Take this from someone who has worked on both PHAkT AND ImpAKT.

Well waldo take it easy.
They hunt down the firms and corporates using there Programmes but private users? who just do it for hobby or something what about them?
Do you think that they will hunt them well honestly if they do they are goin to get nothing as, such users have nothing to pay.
So again what i meant was the private users.
If we have a look other way round then they let them use them purposely. Why? cause later these people will suggest or carry on using thier Progrmmes in the firms or companies where ever they are employed.
I personally never bought it untill an year ago. Still after i started working as a Webadmin in a company i already made four customeers to buy their liscence and my company later bought me one aswell.
See how it works???
