I'm setting up an on-line shop, using ASP/VBScript & SQL Server 2000.

Can anyone recommend an on-line credit card authorisation and payment service?

My client doesn't have a Merchant account so I need one that will accept payment and transfer it to a standard business account (like PayPal). I would also prefer one that allows me to develop my own shopping cart rather than having to use a standard built in "ugly-cart".

I have looked at PayPal and this does what I want, but I've heard some horror stories about it taking months before you receive payment. This is my clients first forray into E-commerce (mine too, for that matter), so I want it to go smoothly. Has anyone had any first-hand experience?

Owen.

I recently also set up a (Business) PayPal account for this academic organization I work for (no pay!<img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>. Now those horror stories you mentioned raise a red flag in my head. I'm keeping my fingers crossed....

Aye, Worldpay gets my vote, its simple to set up.
Paypal is a little ropey to say the least....
Also, if youre spending money, a GREAT one in the UK is UPG (Universal Payment Gateway), this does requie a merchant account however, but its verification and fraud prevention features are brilliant.

In defense of Paypal, I must say this............When you recieve Paypal money, it goes into your "Paypal Balance" and needs to be manually withdrawn to your bank account. I found this out becasue I was waiting for about two weeks for money from an eBay auction, and I never recieved it. I actually did a betterwhois search to get the contact information for Paypal. They explained this to me and I had my money within a day, in my bank account. Ive never had any problems with Paypal prior to this, nor since...... So Im guessing that the horror stories you folks heard, were from people who were too proud to admit that they were as stupid as I am. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
