New "Open in code view" extension doesn't work

Despite adding a new extension to the "Open in code view" list (Edit/Preferences), double clicking on a file with that extension only displays the "Can't find a valid editor for this extension" error message.Any ideas anyone?

what was the new extension you added? if your computer doesn't know the file type for the extension you used then it won't be able to open it.
i just tried saving a notepad text file as "test.alc" into one of my defined sites in dw 4 (i have no idea what a ".alc" file is, and apparently neither does my computer, which makes this a good test!). then i tried to open the file in dreamweaver's site window, and gave the same error message as you got: "Can't find a valid editor for this extension".
so it looks like you have to tell windows what to open that file with: in a windows explorer window, go to view/folder options/file types and hit "new type", then enter the details of the new file type in the following window. once windows knows how to handle your extension, you should be able to open the file.
