defining connection to mdb dsn?

ok, i am doing something wrong here and i am too wrapped up to see it. someone please check this newbie's steps?**********************************
1. defining site in UD4 (editing 'disk-based' locally), have specified application server as 'asp 2.0' with 'vbscript' as the default. remote access is through ftp.
2. with 'page.asp' open (local), i choose 'Modify > Connections' and click 'New' (specifying DSN)
3. i name my connection something like 'conn_test01' and select the appropriate local 'System DSN' from the drop-down.
4. i 'Test' the connection and it returns successful. (yay?)
5. when i click 'ok', my 'Connections for site...' window still shows no connections although my 'Connections' folder in my web root shows .mdb correctly.
6. if i attempt (from 'Server Behaviors') to add behavior 'Recordset (Query)' (or any behavior apparently), my 'Connections for site...' is still empty. if i attempt to populate by following steps 2-4 (above)...i get caught in loop as described in step 5 (above).
7. i can define new connections all day long and the .mdb is created in the 'Connections' folder of my web however i never get a connection to use.
************************************
what am i forgetting?
thanx in advance!

What flavour of Dbase are you using?
MySQL or ACCESS.
I had the exact same problem with a MySQL connection and did not overcome it.
In the end I purchased space on an NT box as no one could help.
All I can suggest is check your DB and DSN to make sure all is in order and remove the connection scripts then setup the connection again.
To be honest you appear to be doing everything by the book.
Sorry I can't be of further use and good luck.

shucks. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>
well, it is at least comforting to hear that i am doing all ok....
the db is all in access although I have also attempted with MySQL.
the prob is that i am historically a "front-end" kinda guy and just dont understand the "why" of a lot of my server-sided issues.
i believe (since it is only a production server after all...) that I shall take your advice and just scratch it all and try again.
thanx for the advice...peace.
