I have recently change from Windows ME to XP, so i have lost the Personal Web Server, i have had no trouble with that, but i can't work now with the pages that update the database, working online it works perfect, but not in my localhost, what can I do to configure this access to my database, i think i have done all right, or requires an addiotional ODBC configuration, more than PWS???

Hmm, can you run any database access? if you can, only not updates, then I would go to microsoft (msdn online), as they would be the only ones with an answer.

but if you can't do any database access, then I would check several things:
1. check permissions, make sure that everyone has access to the files and the databases.
2. make sure that everything is cool in the odbc manager... if you don't know where it is (if you don't know where it is, then this is probably the problem) you can find it at start > settings > control panel > odbc manager (I say this never having used xp... but why would they change that?)

hope that helps,

You say that you haven't got PWS running on your XP machine. I presume that you must have a have a version of IIS running on it then.

If you arn't running IIS then have you tried installing PWS on your XP machine, (i think this will work as XP has got good compatability) and it should be free on the microsoft site somewhere.

With out IIS or PWS running on your local machine you will not be able to get access to the database through your web pages, and this will give you an error.

I am not too hot on XP (as I've never used it) but maybe there's some new software for it that can host page locally.

Windows XP Home Edition DOES NOT support Personal Web Server. You need to get XP Professional edition with IIS 5. I made the mistake of buying a laptop with XP HE installed only to have to purchase the PRO Upgrade for $199!! (well, actually, one of the reps at the store there told me PWS would run on HE, so I ended up getting Pro for half price)
