When i press F12 to preview my html page in a browser, a message box appears:

"Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site localhost/TMP41ee3mfoik.htm.
A connection to the server could not be established". Does anybody know why?

well, there could be several reasons for this... the main I think being,

1. Is your Ultradev local site root, the same directory as the IIS default website? if it's not, make sure you have those settings correct
(ie, set up a virtual directory in IIS pointing to your dir, then set all the urls in ultradev to Localhost/whatever)

2. ... well I don't know any other reason... just check to make sure all settings match each other (pointing to the right dirs)

on a side note... I think the preview in browser totally sucks, UD is always forgetting to delete temp files, and it's slow. if you want to be fast, and don't mind a small learning curve:

1. open a browser, and point it to the page you're working on.

2. after doing some work in UD, save the file by pressing "ctrl + S"

3. upload the file by pressing "ctrl + shift + U"

4. switch to the browser by pressing "shift + tab"

5. refresh the browser by pressing "F5"

I know it looks like a lot, but if you master that combination, you'll be editing faster than you can snootchie bootchies <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Yes you problably are right, it's just me that don't understantd. I just want to open UltraDev and work on a site, but i have to Define the site, and that's the part i think i am having trouble with. Why do we have to "Define" the site. Tell me if i am wrong but is it for the ASP? Here are my settings(this is the part i don't understand):

Local root folder: C:\01-Joel\Sites\testsiteServer access: None
Server Model: None
Home Page: C:\01-Joel\Sites\testsite\index4.htm

Maybe if i changes someting in these settings, the Preview in Browser option would work.

well, one of the reasons you have to define your site, is because UD tracks all links and images. if you were to move an image from one directory to another, UD would ask you if you wanted to update links to that file. This helps you as a webmaster keep your site in order.

as far as the settings go, I've never had to set up a site without having a webserver... even a local IIS, so I would suggest you do that first (since you need IIS to run ASP anyways) There's tons of tutorials and docs on the net about setting that up, so I wont go into that.

once you do that, you can define virtual directories under your default site, which means that even if a directory is under C:\01-Joel\Sites\testsite, you can access it by opening a browser, and going to localhost/testsite.

then set the server model to asp (or whatever) and choose local/network access.

you should be ok with these settings, I suggest getting one of the books at www.basic-ultradev.com the reference goes through all these steps...
