...but I'm new to this kind of thing. Help me, someone: I've installed Ultradev, and am trying to get an ASP-based database together, but every time I try and set up a recordset, it asks me for the location of my local web server. How can I get round this without spending several squillion on purchasing my own server??? Replies

Starting right at the beginning?
Depending on what operating system you are using you install either PWS (Personal Web Server) or IIS (Internet Information Services) this effectively makes your PC a Web Server - don't know anything about Mac's - sorry.
Windows 95 - got to www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ntoptionpack/askwiz.asp follow the instructions and dowload NT options pack for Windows 95.
Windows 98 - You should find the PWS setup.exe file on your Windows 98 CD ROM.
Windows NT4 Workstation - Make sure you have Service Pack 6 installed, you can download it from www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/default.asp. Then go to www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ntoptionpack/askwiz.asp download and install NT options pack for NT4 Workstation.
Windows 2000 Profesional - Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, Select Add/Remove Windows Components, Check the box next to Internet Inormation Services (IIS), click Next and follow the instructions.
Windows Me - This doesn't officialy support PWS but I believe it will run. Take a look at the article at the top of the list at Macromedia's web site www.macromedia.com/home/searchresults/?sp-k=&sp-p=any&sp-a=00050d14-sp00000001&sp-q=Windows+Me+PWS&Go.x=15&Go.y=0.
Might be an idea to buy a book, check out:
Foundation Dreamweaver Ultradev 4 - Rob Paddock & Spencer Steel - ISBN 1-9-903450-34-9
