When using the slideshow function, the first image displays, then the window resizes slightly and displays the same image again.

Could you please provide a link to your page?

I have the same issue as well. It seems to flash like it is reshowing the first image twice as it is initializing the script. This is in Firefox and IE both.

It seems to be something with the height CSS property of the Container. Will report this to the developers.
