MM release Dreamweaver Updater
Macromedia have released an updater: All users running the English version of Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0 should apply this updater, regardless of location or operating system. This is what MM say is in the new update:
Performance improvements
The update fixes various performance issues reported by some users, such as when typing in pages with nested tables, switching documents, or launching Dreamweaver.
Stability improvements
The update fixes several bugs that caused Dreamweaver to crash, such as in certain circumstances when working on ASP.NET or JSP pages in Design view, or when applying bold or italics to text after applying a color style to the text.
Timelines
The timelines feature, available in Dreamweaver MX but not in Dreamweaver MX 2004, has been restored.
In a section called Inside the Dreamweaver MX 2004 Updater the Dreamweaver team write about why they made the changes, what was wrong and how they fixed it.
"While we were thrilled with the new features released in Dreamweaver MX 2004 this past fall, we were not as pleased with the performance and stability we heard about from customers. While we felt confident of quality with our beta customers, our larger customer base let us know we had fallen short. Unfortunately, the new features and functionality we added also introduced thousands more lines of code to an already robust product. With over three million lines of code in Dreamweaver MX 2004, the new features increased the application’s complexity, resulting in unexpected performance and stability issues. "
DMXzone Note: Macromedia advises to disable all installed extensions before you install the update. There is really *no* need for this and also it won't work for the commercial DMXzone extensions. Check the this FAQ
