01 Apr 2005 09:11:46 Andre Bender posted:
After 1 week of trying and reprogramming my pages x times I managed to have the extension work, more or less. Now I encountered some more problems and I do hope that one of the well earning founders is finally willing enough to help a customer this time.

1. Progress bar
The progress bar pops up, but doesn't show any changing value. It just shows 0%. By the way it would be better to show up total of mails to be send and the actual mail beeing send. How can this be done?

2. How do I set the correct value of the timeout?

Just let me show you the structure I'm using. Maybe that's helping you assisting me:

website/cgi-bin/..
read/write directory = temp directory

website/newsletter/send_newsletter.asp
website/newsletter/yellow_mailprogress.htm
website/newsletter/yellow_mailprogress.swf
(no read/write access on directory)

website/ScriptLibrary/incSmartMailer.asp

Result:
- Mails will be send
- Flash progress bar pops-up
- Flash progress bar only shows 0% than ready

So, what can I do to make this progress bar work properly??

Hi Mark

Andre ended up posting this over on the general forum and it still seems to be unresolved, the link is here:

Andre, I'm going to bump this to Patrick again. Do you have any updates regarding this issue, is it fixed or still broken etc.?

Hi Mark

Maybe, but we should continue posting in the correct forum specific to the extension, so I'd rather keep it here.

I know you've said your problem is the same as Andre's, however, I would like you to describe your own situation and let me know what OS you're using and if this is failing locally and/or at your host web site if you have one.

Maybe a better idea would be to start your own thread and we'll take it from there.

Hello Lee,
I'm using Win XP SP2 with Dreamweaver MX 2004. I don't test locally I do all my work online. Although the progress bar dowsn't work, it does seem that emails are being sent. Not sure why I didn't think of this earlier but I will add myself to the end of the data and see if an email reaches me. I have a planned mailshot for Monday evening and will report back to you after that.

Rather than a 'flash' progress bar I would much rather see a "sending xx of xx emails" screen - saved as a page that I can possible customise to fit the colour scheme of my site.

Hi Mark

Can you check that the web server has write access for the folder that you've specified in the SETUP tab for the progress bar, the default folder name is temp, just in case you haven't changed it?

You should post your wish for the progress bar in the REQUEST FEATURES forum for Smart Mailer ASP, I'm sure this isn't the first time someone will ask for it, the more posts added for a feature, the more likely it can be included in future releases.

Hi Lee

I still got the following problems:

1. Using a database field with empty records for the "Name", then application stopps.

2. Flash bar pops up but doesn't disappear after the last mail has been send (maybe that's because I do only count every 10th mail).

3. Flash bar doesn't show up the actual number of mails beeing sent.

The file with the mail currently been send out information will be written to the webserver but the flash bar can't read it.

If the file written to the server is delete, does this definitly mean that all mails have been sent out?

I'd like to have a start and an end file with a time stamp on the server...

Hi Andre

1. I'm waiting for confirmation about this question.

2. Not sure what you mean, can you clarify please? Your logic about the 10th mail count seems to be about right.

3. My understanding of the progress bar is that it is designed to show only the percentage completed, not the number of emails being sent 'n sent of n' type of thing. I would definately post this in the REQUEST FEATURES forum.

When I can chat to someone about question one, I'll get back to you Andre.

If you look at the smart mailer ads on this website, the number of mails being sent are shown there. However I do only see 0% all the time.

Hi Andre

Thanks for the version number and your comments on the n of n in the ads. Had to refresh the page a few time, however, I see what you mean, I'll get back to you on this. Can you check that the web server has write access for the folder that you've specified in the SETUP tab for the progress bar, the default folder name is temp, just in case you haven't changed it as you are saying that you only see 0% compete? Let me know when you have checked the permissions.

Hi Andre

Just letting you know that I have replicated the issue regarding the 0% with all the appropriate permissions being set correctly, the data in the temp file is being updated but the progress bar is not processing the info. I have forwarded screenshots and data files to the developers for analysis and I should get a response/guidelines back soon.

Hi Andre

Not sure about that one being an extension issue Andre, especially as it was working previously. Have a think about what changes have been made to your environment between the last successful action and the first unsuccessful action. Are you sure ALL emails are being sent, even the last?

Regarding the progressbar functionality. An issue has been discovered and a updated 1.0.6 is due out. So far I have tested two versions of an update which have been rejected, rebuilds are happening as we speak.

As soon as I the new updated version is ready I'll post back.

Actually none of the dmx progress bar do close anymore, even the upload one. But all mails have been sent (I put a start and an end mail as a control) and the files have been uploaded (and resized).

Thanks for your efforts!
