It's been awhile since Studio MX 2004 came out. Has anyone heard news of a new version, since it's now 2005?

-(I heard) Freehand MX2004 is plausibly around, that'll bring the entire suite up to MX2004.

-Flash 8 is in the works (shown at MAX2004), but didn't seem close for release yet. I believe we'll see a Flash Player 8 release right before the application is publicly available.

-"Brady"/Flex builder is only DW MX2004 w/Flex support, so MM said not to rush and grab if we're just DW users. So not sure if DW dev crew was on that or a new DW.

-Contribute 3/Web Publishing System just came out, so I expect maybe a bug patch at least.

-Captivate is new, and pretty damn cool and wont be part of the Studio series.

Honestly, <b>I would like another update to DW MX2004</b> <i>before</i> I see another ~$300 upgrade fee!!! <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> (I can vent, can't I?!)

Ooh, check this out, some points from MM MAX that I didn't really hear about (I didn't go, but you know).

I read in an earlier forum post that DW's high-profile features coming are:
<ul><li><b>Coding Bar</b> - ala Homesite?!?</li><li><b>Code Folding</b> - tree style menu collapsing, again, ala Homesite?! and every other decent coding app in the world. Honestly, finally!!!</li></ul>

I'm scared that these will be the new features toated, plus CFMX7 compatibility (but DMX2004 people can get an extension for that). I'm dying to hear <i>real</i> desired features to be added... making it worth the $200-300 upgrade, especially since DevNet subscriptions are dead now. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Wish: license InterAKT's <i>MX Coder Pack</i>, allowing my custom functions to be in a nice pallet easily for me to reference and use.

Ok, saw a sneak peak video of <b>Flash 8</b> (8-ball) features.
<ul><li>Strokes will get a overhaul - gradient strokes, sharp corners, and more control.</li><li>Object (MC) Blend modes, like Fireworks & Photoshop.</li><li>Real-time filters - drop-shadows, glows, etc.</li><li>Gradient lightsource control.</li><li>Object based drawing, like Freehand/Fireworks/Illustrator</li><li>Bitmap displacement effects, like magnify glass and water drops over areas.</li><li>Actionscript compiling enhancements.</li><li>Component overhauls, and plausibly "easier" component integration/customization.</li></ul>

<b>Flex 2.0</b> has some cool stuff coming, Flex 1.5 was a nice update especially in charting features.

<b>Macromedia Central</b> will have stage rendering effects, like alpha/skinned desktop windows. Alpha modes to fade into the desktop, and effects like drop-shadow of the app window. Also, Flex integrated to render Flex charts and stuff.

I've heard that MM is bringing out a new version of Dreamweaver that is cheaper but with NO coding options (PHP, ASP, etc). And that you can buy a seperate language for that. In my opinion a great idea! I never use PHP and I'm willing to pay more for DMX when ASP.NET is really GOOOD intergrated into the product.

So you mean, no Server-Side stuff, basically no database/dynamic interaction? Sounds like the regular old DW to me. Wow, it'd be interesting to see what happens. I remember when Ultradev came out, that confused some people but I loved UD! Now I love my DMX2004, for now.

Yes... I've been browsing and keeping my ears open for almost a year now to see what new things will be in Dreamweaver. I've heard that the standard version has no server side coding inside and you can buy them seperatly. When you want to develop in PHP MySQL then you can buy e.g. a PHP MySQL coding pack.

I hope this is going to be their new strategy and I'm also willing to pay more if MM brings out fantastic ASP.NET coding packs. A program as Visual Studio or the new Web Developer 2005 is also quite expensive.

If people have new information please post!!!
